I think this was brought in to stop your lever stabbing any poor pedestrian that walked into your path.
Hence just filing it sharp edges off isn't enough, it must be "ball ended" The good news is pattern SV clutch lever cost pennies ( I had to get one as the bike I bought had the ball missing  ), it cost about £4

Another positive feedback from me for 'Barwells biker bits' lol. Lever fitted, nearly killed pulling off my drive though, profile must be slightly different
