I don't think flex is an issue, just damping. You've never got as much control with emulators as with proper cartridge, rebound is issue that can give same vague feeling that you used to get with flexy oldschool stuff.

Forks? Or bike?

Forks are nothing special, just 600 SRAD standard ones with .85 springs, revalve, mild clean up of port in valves*, RSF5 oil.

Bike has lots of mods, big mods are front end and 8987 shock. Full M4, other stuff... You can have a go on it if you want.

*makes no difference I can feel.

im roughly the same weight as you and the only forks i could find that ran hard springs and were the right length and liked the look off were aprilia and ducati forks so i went with aprilia and its the best mod to date on my bike..... all i want now is YC's rear shock to finish the package off

They are some serious forks, so it'll have been yokes, mudgaurd, brakes and wheel too.

I'll have a search sure I saw your build somewhere on here.

Penske gear can't be cheap is Chris not from yorkshire? where money spending is frowned upon

Worth every penny mate. The 8987 is total overkill though, the 8983 I actually bought for was perfectly adequate

You say the just SV vibrates more but doesn't go anywhere. I don't agree with that necessarily, but can see how it could feel that way when getting straight off a Gixxer 750. Thing is that's maybe what people want, the sensation of thrashing a bike and going fast, without actually seeing big numbers on the speedo? I was outside Cupar Motorcycles once admiring a Gixxer Thou, and the salesman told me to forget it, because "you'll have more fun thrashing your SV, than pottering around on that thing at part throttle"

There are lots of people who spend 4 grand on a brand new SV, and immediately spend another grand on mods, and for them they have got a brand new bike, which suits what they want better than a GSXR600, and they've still saved themselves 3 grand.

All the competitors are budget commuter bikes, the likes of the ER6 which needs just as much fettling if not more to get it right. Maybe the closest thing I can think of to an SV is the Aprilia Shiver, but you still need to spend money on it's bouncy bits. If there was more choice out there, we'd have more different bikes doing mini-twins, and we'd have other similar race series.

I was out on the Daytona for 5 hours yesterday, and every time I touched more than 1/2 throttle I was over 3 figure speeds and you are left thinking, "OK, that was f***ing awesome, but I can't do that too often or I'll loose my license or end up dead". Most of the day I used no more than quarter throttle, and 30-80mph in 2nd or 3rd gear is just a tiny twist of the throttle. I enjoy the ease with which the bike just carries you from village to village and bend to bend, "the magic carpet" I've started calling it, but on the SV you can come out of a 30 limit and pin it full throttle up to 80 mph and it's fun!

SS600's have some ability to use full throttle on the road, but again it's limited how much you can thrash them, as above 11-12k revs they go mental and your in three figure speed territory again before you can sneeze.

No neither would I, there are some essential mods, suspension and a larger rear sprocket are the main ones.

And I bet you can't get one of them for less than a grand!

I had Jap reliability in mind when buying the SV too...
