plus 1 to that fella,

Ive been stuck in side doing uni work the last few weeks and never have I been so eager to get out and have some fun on 2 wheels as I am at the moment.
My 16mile commute has rarely dropped below 20miles on the way home any excuse lol.

Only downside is I am nearing my first oil change already - still unsure about this 1000 mile oil change interval - seems excessive - but call me a sheep as I am copying what everyone else seems to do!

Well if anyone in future thinks they have the wrong bike and want to get rid of it sharpish then I'll take any functioning bike with a full years MOT and 12 months tax off their hands for £50.

Bare it in mind.

I just havent instantly gelled with it, which is unusual as I have always done so in the past. I think I miss the versatility of the Versys even though I wanted a bike that was as much a thing of beauty as well as something which would handle well

There's a lot to be said for a big ugly trailie isn't there?
I went from a DL1000 to a honda hornet and although the DL was a big lump (as i am) it was sorted the way I wanted and was just effortless. I did a 700 mile day on it twos up and still had the energy to drink wine afterward. The hornet I manage 100 miles on and i'm shattered. Sore neck, nuck bum but it goes bonkers when you wind it up. I'm quickly finding though what I think will be a great road bike and what is a great road bike are two totally different things. I'm getting a big twin next or maybe a big 4. I'm thinking the honda Crossrunner or ktm dakar adventure will be my perfect bike to be honest. So i'm going to testride one asap.

I went the big twin route with the 1100S hypermotard... Was seriously hard work and effort, no fun at all, and frustrating more than anything else.

If i do anything again it will probably be the big IL4 approach next.

Was it not a great road bike though? or was it a little too hooligan biased?

It was to shortly geared in that no gear ever felt like the right gear to be in, the big twin was to vicious (for me), and although the whole reason I wanted it was to slow me down... It was just a bit to slow above 80 and I felt like I was treating it to harshly to get out of it what I wanted, and being Italian it worried me... Which ruined the enjoyment.

Fantastic bike, just not for me. I can't imagine any big twin being any different, I'm just to used to IL4's

Seems to me that it is not just a case of suspension , although that is the main protagonist , if you do not Gel with a bike then no matter how great you tweak it , there will always be that niggling in the back of the mind . I had a go of the 950SM and it was a total hoot on Welsh roads , but it can be very single minded , So time to start booking at dealers and getting on their nerves with testing everything they have on your short list
