Sorry folks I'm not following the argument that a restricted licence is just as expensive to get as a full licence via DAS. To do DAS you need to accompanied have lessons on a (usually) hired bike, which is not cheap. Locally a full DAS course to test over a week or two is £600 odd, surely you can do restricted test for less than this?

The only difference between a restricted license and DAS is the size of bike you do the test on.
So cost is the same in that if you were bikeless, you'd need to hire a bike regardless of which you do. Same with kit. |

A week or two training costs £600 near you? That's bloody good. 3 years ago, my restricted DAS was £600, which was for 1xday CBT, 2xday training and then half day for warm-up and the test. Went from having never riden a bike on the Sunday morning to having a licence on the Wednesday. |

OK yeah I can see if you do a course then the prices are similar. However, I was thinking doing CBT, buying 125 and learning, passing restricted licence and then selling 125 for close to what was paid for it would be cheaper? This option is not available for DAS due to the need to be accompanied on the 500.
An informative thread that is relevant as I have a friend interested in getting his license at the moment and is asking for advice. |

Ahhh just realised you need to add the CBT too at £130 so true cost of Restricted is £540, so no only £50 difference now

I took my restricted license due to being under 21. Although buying a 125 myself, it isnt completely necessary. Certainly at the place where i took my test, you could borrow their bikes, exactly the same as doing DAS.

Could she not do her DAS then buy an easily restricted bike (like a pointy SV for example with a simple ecu change) and then ride for the first few weeks/months restricted, then once used to it simply remove the restrictor?
