Seriously, would I help if I saw a gannet or any other bird in difficulty? Yes...I always do, but you have to do it safely. If you don't know how...call the RSPB or RSPCA.

There's one thing though that always really annoys me with stories like this...people always say "it attacked me". No, it didn't, it just did what wild animals do when they feel in danger.
Didn't peck his eye out either, still news people

This a picture of a Welsh Gannet colony, i was lucky enough to go on a RIB cruise.

If you get close enough, the "nests" on the rock are tinted orange because of all the fishnetting the birds mistake for nest material. Every year folk go on the island to "see to" the young birds which end up getting completely entangled in the fishing line, if they can free them they try, if not they put them out of their misery.

They're fantastic birds, but holding one would be a completely different gannet of fish!

On gannet colonies, The Bass Rock is worth a visit if you are on the East Lothian coast, boat trips leave from North Berwick, or Ailsa Craig on the west coast, boats leave from Girvan.

All this talk of Herrings.......

Seriously though, even after what seems like a lifetime of dealing with some right dimwits I'm still amazed that basic logic still evades some! You feed birds because you think it's "cute", and take great joy in how "tame" they become, and then act all surprised when they are bold enough to help themselves....

You only have to watch a bunch of teenagers outside McDonalds to see what happens when offspring isn't educated properly...... At least the Gulls clear off eventually.

That reminded me of when we went fishing whilst youngsters with me dad and grandad in Scarboro(or Bridlington) can't remember which cause I was little.

Brother cast out and this gull came to gobble the bait off the line mid flight, my grandad didn't half get pecked to bits trying to get it out of its gob. Reeeling it in was like reeling a bloody shark!

Twas one o those with black wings MissYC and the red blob on its beak. Big pecky thing!
