We still lend to other countries,EG Ireland a few months ago and there is much more to it than annual budget surplus/deficit figures.The rather unpalatable truth is that this country has been getting ever more heavily in the red sinse the early 1970s and both parties of government are equally to blame.Look at the balance of trade deficit figures which used to be in surplus until the mid 70s then went red in ever greater numbers after.Compare these to the figures for China over the last twenty years and you see the problem.This country has been running on hot air for decades as have many other western nations.The bailiffs are coming to nail a few writs to the mast and no one is leaving port.

I can get one off the tv at 1000 and odd per cent

Well you could buy a British Nissan or Toyota or Honda.Allright so they are Japanese.
Or a Ford or Vauxhall.Allright so they are American
Or an MG.Allright so they are Chinese.
Actually even my local water is French.
