Thats something I do need to do. Just oil & a toothbrush? or is there a special clever technique?

Just use an old rag, soak it in the oil and then rub over the chain. Wear gloves though as old oil is nasty stuff.

I've used oil engine oil in my Scottoilers for about twenty years.

If an SV650 has a flat tyre in the forest and no-one is there to blow it up, how long will it be 'til someone posts that the reg/rec is duff and the world will end unless a CBR unit is fitted? A little bit of knowledge = a dangerous thing.

I use it in my Scottoiler too, however I do add chainsaw oil to it first

No. But I let the oil settle before I put it in the bottle I fill the Scottoiler from - so there's no lumps .

I filter out the bits of gearbox and put it on the chain too.
