BTW, all three are top of any reliability survey or customer satisfaction survey that you care to look at. Whereas Land Rover tends to be at the bottom of those same surveys.

It just proves that the British workforce is perfectly capable of manufacturing a quality product, IF it's managed properly!

JLR have reported record orders, taking on more staff etc, it might be Indian owned now but it's the only manufacturer with a bright 2012 ahead.

I would have thought the toaster gave it away - I've got a KTM 990 SM-T, which seems to have been bulletproof up to date (7500 miles and counting - I was on my third triumph engine by now)

Land Rover are playing to the prestige and fashion market and playing the game very well. Every Mummy with too much money wants a 4x4, and some of the Daddy's too, and to be a bona fide 4x4 and look right turning up at the horsey show or the golf club, it has to be a Land Rover.

Not that I'd buy her one even if we did have the money, but my wife's dream car is a new Discovery. Every time we pass one on the motorway, she says "Can I have one of those?", at which point I choke on my coffee and reply "they've got the money to buy something really decent, why didn't they?".

Yep, JLR are owned by TATA, but they still manufacture in the UK.

In reality buying something from JLR is now no more patriotic than buying a Toyota from Derby, a Honda from Swindon, or a Nissan from Sunderland, and you get a much better vehicle for it too.

I have a Derby built Toyota Avensis and a Hinckley built Triumph Daytona 955i. UP THE MIDLANDS MANUFACTURERS!

Sure it is, JLR Vehicles are pretty much fully engineered and developed in the UK. Though it has an Indian parent, it's a proper British marque
