My SV is my first big bike and I love it. I had the NSR for the first 12 months of riding but I was lucky enough to ride a variety of "big" bikes as well while I was getting ready for my test including a CB500 (OK), ER5 (meh) and a Bandit (quick but a bit dull). I did a lot of reading around and asked a few people and the SV kept coming up as something to look at. I liked the sound of the relative lightness of a twin as opposed to an IL4 and the torqueyness (yes,of course that's a real word) so when a SV appeared at a local dealer, with some fairings ('cos I don't like nakeds) I went to try it. The minute I put it in gear, I loved it. When money allows I'll trade her in for something newer but there's a good chance that it'll be another SV.

Well done on passing your test and I hope you enjoy the SV. Oh and welcome to this place too.

I passed my DAS about 2 months ago and had my SV for about a month as my first big bike. Pottered around for the first few rides just getting used to it but am now getting the hang of the SV. Its been good to me so far and I think it has more than enough speed to keep me satisfied for a while yet. Go for it!

Yes. Great first bike. If I'm honest I think £1200 is a bit overpriced. I wouldn't want to pay any more than £1000 for it.

Brilliant first bike, easy to get on with and I found it confidence inspiring. Loved it for the year I had it right up until it got killed (semi killed - got a letter from Poland from a chap that now has it!).

I would have got another if I hadn't been offered the triple at a good price.

Thanks for all the replies. Due to be picking it up mid-March. Can't wait.
Will spend a little while just getting used to it before going too far afield.

As always it depends entirely on the condition.
