More the merrier! I was supposed to be doing this with my brother-in-law but he's been forced to go to Cuba! Idiot!
So I am not going to cancel, fancied doing a wee tour since i got into bikes, so i am not going to cancel. Bit nervous going all that way by myself, but I enjoy riding wether with folk or without. Going to go thru' google maps today and print out route for the sections I don't know - mainly from Granton-on-spey back to Loch lomond. ![]()

Defo recommend Applecross, North to South though for the best views.
Anyway I stay in the Glasgow area and every year do a 3 or 4 day trek with two pals. Last year we did Glasgow to Ullapool, then Ullapool to Dornoch which took us to Cape Wrath (Top left of Scotland), then east across the very top of the country to John O'Groats (brilliant road) then south to Dornoch but ensure you go down the east side of lochness from Inverness. Then we went back across to Glasgow. Three days of bliss, bike n beer. Isle of Skye too is a great trip and great roads and get the ferry from the south side of the island back to the mainland then back into Fort William but make sure you fule up in Skye as the petrol station on the mainland at the ferry terminal is the last before Fort William - my mate limped in on his R1. Enjoy whatever you do. Oh, and make sure you take waterproofs!!!!!!!!! |

I know the lone wolf travels fastest but don't overstretch yourself by doing 300+ mile days, you are on holiday so enjoy it once you are up there. Having done umpteen tours over the last decade, especially once you are on the single track roads I find my intended journey times seem to be a bit longer than planned,be it stopping for photographs, watch wildlife or a snack, even the weather can make for a harder days riding. Only my opinion but you miss so much having to crack on to reach your overnighter. Then again if it is purely for the thrill of the ride be prepared for the odd surprise---------------but the main thing is ENJOY whatever your intention.
P.S. I bet you end up going back,I come from there and spend 7-10days touring twice a year ,once on the bike[roughing it] and then with my lady in the car[posh B&Bs] and i still find things I have never seen before. Last edited by Dicky Ticker; 23-02-12 at 09:57 AM. |

All of this sounds/looks amazing! I couldn't get to sleep last night because I was busy reading this post n checking out all the routes. Having done my first tour in 2010 I'm keen to explore new/interesting areas and Scotland is something I've heard a lot about but never spent any time in the countryside up there. Looking at those routes it definitely looks like it's worth taking a few days out to go n explore up there n get a taster for it.
However, having just sold my sv (needed the cash and now gutted I sold her) it looks like it'll be a while - unless I get insured on a mates ![]() Thanks for such an interesting thread  Sent from my Samsung Galaxy using Tapatalk |
