I really need to start loosing some weight as well, since I started working in IT i have gained over 3 stone in fat although I have still been doing the weights so I have gained a bit of muscle (shame its covered in fat). But i did have to take 9 months off training during 2011 due to a shoulder injury

Pic from yesterday (105KG for 8 reps - proper reps all the way down, touching my chest and no bouncing it)

Pic from 2009ish before I before I got a desk job

Hate doing weights without someone to spot me. Feels like I can't push myself hard enough. Do you have someone to come and spot you?
Plus what I enjoy about the gym rather than using my bench at home is that it's a social activity too really. I go straight after work with a mate and then see others there. Makes it a bit more competitive too and a load of good banter every one is different though and as said, avoids waiting for machines/weights etc.

I train both with and without a spotter it doesn't really bother me unless im really pushing , I used to enjoy the social side of going to the gym but a lot of times people end up not going etc, If i finish work at half 5 it takes half an hour to drive in traffic then i need to get changed so by the time i get in the gym I want to hurry up and get home for tea

The main reason I stopped using the gym was people who treat it like a social club. I wanted to go there, 45-60 mins of hard work and sod off.
There was one group that would train as a 4 and would just stand and talk for 5 mins in between each set, if they were on a bench or cables that you wanted to use it would be over a half hour until it was free again. They never really done much exercising to be honest.

That's understandable. It's very annoying if people are taking too long.

Same here, I usually go say something but there's a lot of ganstas at my gym so some of the time it makes no difference

It's good if you say "Mind if I jump in and do a quick set while you rest?" Then lift lots more than they did.
I couldn't really pull it off as I'm quite skinny but done it once on the chin up bar, I'll see your 10 chin ups and raise you another 10 mr muscle vest man!

Dave you need to learn the gangsta speak on the "literally thread"

I love going to the gym, no weights just cardio, I really enjoy going on the machines and just watching all the other gym members, I have a treadmill at home, but it is not nearly as much fun as getting on the bike and going to the gym for a good work out.
