The only thing we use nitrogen is to.locate leaks in the a/c system.

Loads of information around on the net about this.
I found this fairly interesting link http://www.epicentermotorsports.com/...on_Article.pdf None of the benefits are significant to warrant the use of nitrogen in a road car or bike, especially one that has its tyre pressures checked regularly. In a race environment, the main benefits are a more uniform change in pressure through a given temperature change. The other reason seems to be that if you have both Nitrogen and compressed air available, Nitrogen would be the better choice for a tyre. For a road car or bike though, although there may be very small technical benefits, after including the disadvantage of not being able to easily inflate your tyres at home or the local garage, and the fact the many garages charge for the privilidge, it simply isn't worth it. Use compressed air and regularly check your tyre pressures, simple. |

If the tyre is full of air before you start, and you then pressurize it with nitrogen? And air is already 78.084% nitrogen?
What is the % nitrogen increase to? (come on mathematicians work this out!) Would you not have to fit the tyre in a pure nitrogen environment to get it 100% nitrogen? Or at least purge all of the air out first before filling with the nitrogen? Snake Oil.

Do they do this at Kwikfit? Don't think so!
Rough sums in my head, say nitrogen content would only change from 78% to approx 89% at 30psi or 2 bar. Can't see that making a difference.

Much better idea!

Actaully - that is quite an interesting point, Helium. Wouldnt that reduce the unsprung weight of the bike? And I guess technically, the overall weight of the bike too?
hmmm |
