Thick as pig poo me
WHAT SIZE IS A STANDARD NUMBER PLATE? I was under the impression that providing the border, font and spacing conformed to the legal requirement and being made of the proper kite mark reflective material with makers identification it was legal. No where in the construction and use regs or DVLA sites can I find such a thing as outer dimension size,it is all dependent on the lettering and digits. If you can prove me wrong on this I stand corrected. |

With ref to #15 ,this is only a users site and not an official site that can be used for defence. If you read down to the bits with font and spacing it translates into depending on the number of letters and digits plus outer margin.
There is a Bentley that runs round North London with the reg no. H 1 and it is so small it looks stupid, but it is legal because of the spacing and margin. All I can add to this is we have 5 trucks with personalised number plates which have been questioned by VOSA at the test station due to being smaller and only having a total of six letters/digits, but because the spacing and margins are correct they had to admit they are legal.I would rather take the advice of the senior examiner at the test station than what is written on a site for Ducati and BMW owners |

Cherished Plates Older style registrations must meet the registration plate requirements according to the date of first registration of the machine, with a format style as illustrated below e.g. letters on one line, figures on another. also thers this http://www.gov.mu/portal/goc/mpi/file/roadtraffic.pdf Depends How padantic the Ar$hole is I guess. Bigger things in the world going on

Having read all these requirements it confirms what I am saying.
There is no outer dimensions stated and the only reference to this is manufacturers produced sizes. This keeps croping up on the form and for some reason people seem to have a problem understanding the legal requirement. May I suggest, Sit down with a piece of paper and mark out your number plate with your own registration number and correct spacings etc and measure the outer size including margin-------THAT IS THE SIZE YOU NEED TO BE LEGAL N.B. Motorcycle fonts are smaller than car fonts |

Yep nothing stopping you being flash and having a number like DT 1 . Chopping the plate back but making sure the bs standards and post code is still displayed.
When our old x till got pulled the officers said they couldn't work out if the plate was MIB or M113. Now it was spaced correctly and clearly MIB.But they still insisted in issueing the ticket.. It cost me more than £30 to get a brief to appeal it. But as it was correct why take the hit. Plus dvla can take the plate if they think you mess the number about .
