just had a quote from Nitron for a service. this service includes a dyno run to determine the fast compression for nasty back roads as its a bit fierce at the moment, strip and clean, new seals, new oil, a revalve determined by the dyno and re-built. £75+ vat & P'n'P. (£100)

to have my shock turned into a 3 way including remote can and hose is an extra £160+ vat. (remote can is because i don't want to cut battery box as it seems the piggyback wont fit)

so for £235+vat and carriage (£294) i can have a service plus a full 3 way with remote can. personally i think they have made a mistake with the pricing so i'm going to get back to them as it seems a bit cheep considering a new 3 way is getting on for £700+vat

i find the 1 way is pretty spot on for comp/rebound its just the fast compression that could do with being tweaked.

Yeah that does seem very cheap... do they think that you already have a can on there and they're just putting a hose on?

That's very cheap £690+ splat for the RSV .2 way

nope. i told them what shock i had and they also know from their records. TBH i'm actually happy not having twiddly bits and just like things to work so will prob end up just getting it dyno, valved and serviced. it's not that far off as is and i'm happy with it so if they can sort out the fast comp i'll be even happier as its a right pain in the bum on the very bumpy stuff.

How are you so sure it's fast comp?

The pointy's progressive link gave me that feeling. As soon as it was packed down even slightly it felt rock 'ard.

as its fine the rest of the time and its only when hitting 'square edge' bumps like over painted speed strips and potholes that it's getting out of shape. potholes are fine going in but coming out and the back hops as it's not fast enough same with speed strips and that's a feckin nightmare as the bike hops, skips and jumps all over the place.

Thanks. Wish I could stretch to a 2-way but alas, I've not yet won the lottery... or anything else for that matter! Looks like I'll be going for the nitron 1-way, seems to be the best compromise for me. It's gonna be so much better than what's in there atm I'm not too sad

Nice, so you've good experiences dealing with Nitron then... How long you had your shock (miles / years) before getting it serviced? I'm guessing you've got the 2-way unit given the upgradability.

Damm expensive lovely bits!

nope i have the 1 way. had the shock for 2 seasons come the end of this one and done 13.5k so far and will more than likely be 15k. i would say i have stretched the service just a bit and ideally i would like to see it done at the end of every season. i hear you saying 'but you've only done 13.5k', well shocks go of gradually and riders don't notice the difference till they have them serviced. would you go 15k without an engine oil change? no you would not. shock oil goes off just like engine oil as it gets a good old battering. same applies to fork oil.

as for Nitron customer service they are superb and deal with enquires very quickly. when i first got my shock they sent me a full hight one and i asked for a custom hight one (10mm shorter) so sent it back and received the correct one within the week. i will say one thing though and that is they are very very busy so a fairly long waiting time to have things done.

yes GSXR and ZX shocks do a damned fine job and worth the money but custom shocks are marginally better plus you have the back up of being able to have them serviced by people that understand things properly and are able to tweak them for individual preferences. i'm not saying that there aren't people out there that can service GSXR/ZX shocks and set them up but the good ones are few and far between.

one last word. if you are considering a Nitron, when you order it ask them to fit the new threaded cleat instead of the nut/bolt.

there is a member on here that will give a discount if you go threw them. i think its sv650racer.

I'd be thinking of doing shock oil every 10-15k depending on use.

I'd say doing it every spring would be the ideal.

just wish nitron would do fork revalves so the front would match the back. with them having the dyno i reckon they could get the curves pretty close. oohhh well i can but dream
