I wouldn't think it for a second, and thats not really the point.

Simply that its an awkward position to put someone in when its their jobs whether they're personally fine with it or not.

Not at work should equate to not on the job. Off the clock is exactly that, why assume otherwise? If people want to break the law there are others being paid to deal with that at that time. It would be a little more awkward to put the pc in that position in the 1st place as that would show as taking the pith if you ask me.

This is true but you under estimate how mongish the general public are, they'll happily leave glaring issues with their vehicle all the way until MOT when they more or less HAVE to correct it... How long would they leave it/ let it snow ball otherwise?

Yep I see where you're coming from.

On that side of things I don't think any .org people have ever been stupid enough to swagger towards their bike after 9 cans of skol superstrength either.

It's one of those things, it's never even been a hint of a problem because as much as people are gobsh*tes on here, in person they tend to be alright. Long may it continue

We are always "on duty" as we are always expected to do something to assist.

In the real world you have to judge it for yourselves. Can't do it all!!

As for the MOT £60 fine no points.

yes, but wouldn't you feel bad if a bunch of us got pulled over and you didn't have MOT or whatever whilst sitting next to an off duty police officer.

I'd personally feel bad for putting them in that position. Just as I don't want to know if you've been monkeying around with your phone line. I'm not about to do anything about it if you have but I'd rather you didn't put me in the position of knowing and lying/remaining silent for you.

There is a vast difference between court discretionary penalty and maximum penalty and although our more "Informed" colleges are saying £60 I suggest that you look at the Gov/Highway penalties site which gives the maximum penalties that can be applied.

Alternatively just get an MOT. Anything that is likely to fail the MOT is likely to be an offence in it's own right, so if the reason you haven't got an MOT is because you know your tyre is bald/bearings shot/brakes knackered etc etc then you shouldn't be riding in the first place.

As a general guideline a lot of coppers will check the bike over if the MOT is shown as expired and see if there is a particular reason for it. If you have a well maintained bike and aren't taking the michael you've a good chance of getting away with just some encouragement to sort it......
