Sorry to burst your bubble, pobty is the Welsh for oven. Nothing to do with stuff popping, but I like your thinking.

I remember trying to learn a few words of German in Hamburg once.A local girl told me not to bother. She said the reason the Germans all speak good English is because they would not expect foriegners to learn such a daft language as German. They struggled to understand each other unless from the same area.

Re: Any welsh people on the org ?....
Back in the 80s we has a driver who did a lot of work in Wales he got two people to teach him to say I can speak Welsh but I choose not to. He got two people to do it because he didn't want to get stitched up saying something stupid or rude. Back then the people of central and northern Wales were quite rude to English people, I don't think that it is the same now as he seems to enjoy the runs to Wales now.

Ping doesn't mean micro but the name just means ping oven.

Re: Any welsh people on the org ?....
I lived in the village of Foelgastell in Carmarthenshire (before moving to Llanelli) and nobody spoke english when i was around until i taught myself a bit of welsh to get by and hey presto the english started to flow but i prefered the welsh speaking and i even ended up with a welsh accent for a while

I always found it a north south thing when I have been to wales. Further north you are, the more likely you are to hear welsh spoken.
There is a pub/hotel I stay in up in Dolgellau and the barman there happily slips from welsh to english, depending on whether he is talking to the locals or not. Very happy to help out the the pronunciation of welsh beers too, if its not too busy. |
