Sloth those wires do not have anything to do with the rev-limiter. They send a signal to the ignition when the bike is in 2nd or 3rd gear which retards the ignition curve slighty, ie. full ignition advance is not provided which makes the engine rev slower.

Regarding mains, what's the prejudice against the Mikuni units??

I am running a BMC Race RS filter with Mikuni split mains, 160.0 fr and 157.5 rear. I also have the Factory stage 2 needles clipped down on posn 5.

Economy wise, the bike returned about 22km/L.

Hi peter, the bike seems to rev just as fast in second and third, just not as high in second, I think I will leave the wires, don't want to break it. I have no prejudices against the carbs, I would rather play with the standard jets and lift the throttle slide needle. Do I need to drill out the hole in the top of the throttle slide as you do if fitting dynojet kit? I don't commute on my SV so economy isn't an issue, I get about 20 to gallon out of my other bike when I ride it hard!

Not seen any prejudice myself... Just that the best place in the UK to buy jets is PDQ, and they sell DJs. Plus the most common kits in the UK are DJs. Ben said "make sure you get DJs" but I think that was because if you take DJ size advice and fit Mikunis, you run pretty rich.

Plus, DJ usses bigger numbers for hte same flow, so they sound better 175DJs sounds better than 165 Mikunis, even though they're probably much the same.

PeterM , assumming I have done the conversion right 22KmPL is 62MPG. That seems a bit too good considering what you have on your bike .

Cheers
Ben

Yep, your calculations are about right. I get those figures on general riding (not commuting), usually highway/good secondary roads. When I'm doing that riding I usually keep the revs below 7 grand and cruise at about 4500. If I get stuck into it & spend more time at full throttle that economy can be halved.

Sloth, No need to drill out the slides. If you are going to fit a BMC RS filter you will have to re-jet. Going for a K&N you may need to go up a size or two. Remember, the mains dictate fuelling from about 6500rpm up. Down to about 3000rpm is your needle position. You have to have the correct mains before correcting the rest.
