Should have bought a GSXR 7000rpm limit for the first 600 miles then service, 10500rpm limit until 1000 miles and then do as you like.

7000rpm is good for 95mph in 6th

As yes this what it says in the owners manual before you ask. The manger in the dealership where i bought my bike said to me 4000rpm for 600 miles then 6000rpm for the next 400 upto 1000 miles. He also told me that I should check my owners manual. I'm wandering if you have been given duff information ?

I read several articles on the internet saying not to nanny your engine as it doesnt help the piston rings bed in and make a good seal when running in. Also the chap I spoke to in the dealer today when I had my first service done said that alot of people bring their bikes back when running in as they run like a bag of cr*p and oil up as they dont run them hard enough when running in.

I think you could safely push your bike to 5000rpm without worrying to much.

Oh and Greg, Nice bike mate, Welcome the dark side

Not contacted my insurers yet, but done a quick quote with ebike insurance and it won't be much more than the SV, my last renewal was £390 and ebike came out at about £5 more, although this may be misleading as the CBR has a Datatool alarm but my SV isn't alarmed.

lol, the CBR puts out more torque than the SV.
Gonna have to get used to the power being further up the rev range, looking forward to putting in the miles to get the experience!

You might have a shocker with the insurance if you are going to notify them of a change of bike before the policy ends.

I had been quoted £500 a year comp for the SV and £1500 for an SS600. I went to update the insurance with 3 months to go and they wanted £700!! Just to upgrade for 3 months!!!!!!!!!!

It was because the best underwriter for the SV was not the best for the SS600 so you can't make any assumptions as to how much it will be to upgrade based on getting seperate quotes.

In the end it was cheaper to cancel my policy on the SV (unfortunately losing 9 months worth of NCB) and starting a new one with a more suitable underwriter. Fortunately the premium came to £700 a year which is less than half what I was quoted online!

Obviously if your existing policy is expiring now anyway then it won't be a problem as they can switch you over without losing your NCB.

Thanks Toypop, will phone the insurers Monday, and if I do get a shock I'll shop around.

I didn't have much problem changing to the SV from a GS500, although I guess a SS600 is entirely different.

Anyhoo, my 2005 bonus is paying for all of this , and I can't wait to get the bike now.

Thanks to all for the positive comments, I hope I'm not going to be banished to another forum now that I'm with the IL4 crowd!!!!

Default P/X Price

Hi - congratulations - think you've got a great bike.
I've also got an 03 curvey - last of the K2 models I believe.I waited for the 03 reg. I've always loved the 600F and was wondering whether you would be prepared to share how much the dealer gave you for your bike? How much was the 600F as this is one possible route that I may take.
Mine has done 8,000 miles and is standard in vgc with Suzuki lowers and scott oiler fitted.
Would also appreciate your findings on the new bike.
I'm ready to move on possibly.

yes it does but in a different way, you have to be high in the revs to use the torque on the cbr where as the sv will pull from very low down and you dont have to use the gear box as much

So... as I understand torque, it is the twisting power of the engine.
Ie, Torque is the power developed by the engine / angular speed.

So, again, as far as I know, the SV650 develops more power per turn of the engine than say a CBR600 at the low revs, but then the CBR over takes the SV wrt torque later on.

This is basically the same thing as Kwak said, for some reason I felt like saying it again

I have always felt that, when running in a new engine, keep the revs as per the handbook, but every now and againe push it past it a bit. Not for long and don't hold it there. On the SV I was taking it up to 6 or 7k every now and again, not too often, but just seeing if I could feel the engine hold back. I did the same with the Gixer and that went like a bat out of hell
