it is hyped up - .. but its not a bad road....

its the restrictions really that do for it !!... not htat i could get around those corners at more than 50mph anyway..

but yea- it is worth a look and it will whet our appettite and make you wish you were on yer bike and not in the cage....

food is alreet there but yea there is more choice in matclock bath ..

Jelster- u will be on the road now- if not there already - but let us know what you think of Matlock bath and if you saw Dr WHO .... !!... cos boy oh boy its like stepping out of a tardis into 1940 when you get the MB... fun though- very traditional english old holiday town-- if you like fish n chips- slot machines and rock !!.... and yet- it has all of the above and is a world away from the likes of Blackpool.. !!

hope you have/had a good day.. hey the weater is ace for it.. glorious day here.

Oh I know Matlock Bath quite well as I worked in Matlock for a couple of years (but the bastids never got me to stay!). There is this strange thing about people from Matlock....

Born in Matlock, educated in Matlock, meet people from Matlock, work in Matlock, met wife (from Matlock) in Matlock, get married in Matlock, live in Matlock, raise family in Matlock.... And the cycle continues.....

The best way to describle Matlock Bath is that it's the only Seaside town that's not by the sea

Anyways, just got home. The route we took was as follows:

Dropped off "Boy" with girlfriend at Alton Towers and made our way Froghall, then North up the B5053 to the A515 to Buxton. Stop for a coffee and wander about. Leave Buxton on the A5004 Whalley Bridge Road - That's nice !!

Whalley Bridge to Macclesfield via B5470 and then head off op the A537 back into Buxton, then A6 to Bakewell. Stopped at the C&F but didn't fancy food poisoning so we deciced to move on. Bakewell to Matlock on the A6, through "Bath" onto the B5035 past the resovoir and on to Ashbourne, then back down to pick kids back up.

An observation. The 537 is a great twisty road BUT, it's F***ingly stupidly dangerous with CAR drivers trying to drive them like bikes I got cut up 3 times, twice by 2 different plonkers in Lotus's, and then by a ******** in a long wheelbase pick up truck. WTF gets into these peoples heads ???

My wife had to physically hold me back at the C&F because I wanted to have it out with the knob driving a red Lotus Elise. I think the biking press ought to organise some suitable "marketing" of the facts about the place....

The bikes were fine, every overtake was well timed and safe. The cars on the otherhand were overtaking on double whites and on blind bends, jumping back in front of people and causing them to brake (quite hard in some cases).....

yea thats the prob-- lotus' and mini coopers and porsches.. and ferraris et al........ they all bomb around up there.. nice to know the bikes overtook you well.. given that they dont know that they are overtaking the jelster blade rider !!

I owe u an apology then - re: your history ........ I apologise as it now seems I was patronising.!
I thought you were a total southerner !!!

glad u home safe- thats a long drive in a day .

Oh Daz, you know that that's simply not true. There are any number I could write about that are just fabulous.

And you will ride some of them on AR06.

Just wait for the A483 from Newtown to Cross Gates. Bends? Oh you just wait.

And just wait for the road on to Leominster.

Just wait for the road through Corvedale, from Craven Arms to Much Wenlock.

And I keep the best wine till last. If you're not creaming your pants on the A458 from Much Wenlock to Shrewsbury, especially on the Cressage straight, then I'm a Dutchman.

Social worker friend of mine sez that Matlock has one of the highest rates of in-breeding in the country.
