The reason the infrastructure can't be rebuilt is because the war is still very much going on.As so many of us knew at the time the whole thing has been a disaster, and the only option now seems to be "when in a hole, stop digging".Either way many more will die before it's all over.

Its not really politics when Northwind is arrested for some ******** law brought in by the walking embodyment of evil's govt. Right? Its just northy getting screwed. And not in a way he likes.

Is it politics when you get reefed for speeding, or having a small reg plate?

I dunno man. It just seems sort of arbitary, your dislike for "politics". Its your country, and what happens in it, it matters. No?

If you are not interested in anything that doesnt pertain directly to you, alright, fair enough. But, if other people are, I see no problem for chatting about it in Idle Banter.

And another thing, the refs in this world cup are rubbish.

That reminds me of an ad they had on over here a while back to get people to vote and think about politics. You my friend would not have seen it but basically is was a cartoon of 2 guys in a pub chatting over a pint. One starts to talk about politics and his mate says "I dont do politics"
Yet everything he coes to chat about after that, like why its last orders already, or why a pint costs so much etc. And his mate keps tellin him "ah, i thought you dont do politics"

Guess you have to see it to get the idea but it was clevery showing how some people see "politics" as a thing detached from their everyday lives that they have no control over at all.

And another thing, Brazil and Japan game looks like it could turn out to be a good one at this point.

I strongly object to politics in any shape or form on this site, but I will just put forward my opinion on some issue anyway.
I sense a hypocrisy thread coming on.

I had the pleasure of actually talking to someone who was in Iraq both before and after the US country. His opinion was that although it's far from perfect and there are obviously still huge problems, on the whole the people were happier and more optimistic and some places were actually starting to look better despite others still looking like a war zone. It was his opinion that Iraq will be better off in the long run but still a way to go yet till the government can fully control the country.

I'm not going to pass personal comment because I don't believe either side of the propaganda that you see on the television and without more unbias information it's impossible to form a sensible opinion.

See now to me IB is the "pub conversation" part of the forum where we can discuss things which matter to each of us or ask questions about anything.

I like the fact that we can have these debates about such a wide variety of things.
Would be boring if things were restricted and confined.

End of the day, as Spidey pointed out, everything you discuss is political.

I mean I could turn a Triumph thread into an immigration thread if I wanted to. [yes our bastion of "British" bike manufacturing was founded by two German immigrants :P ].

If you own a TV ( i know you dont Lyn) you are involved in politics. Its a simple as that. The Govt sanction how much the BBC can charge you to watch telly.
By owning and watching TV you have become a political entity.

If you dont own a TV, then what about your council tax? Income Tax? Any of the various Stealth Taxes?

Shame some people like to stick their nose in a thread thats of no real interest to them just to say "this doesnt intrest me, but you should all be interested enough in me to want to know this. Again and again."

Anyway, some good news out of Iraq today. Of the 50 odd workers kidanpped by aremd men yesterday 30 odd were released and another 17 or so freed by Iraqi police of all people.
