As for what ''properly built and used'' means. If the guy you know has a 700 engine that uses oil i'd imagine thats what is defined as not built properly. I've been sarah spanner man at all the bemsee meets this year and i have never once had to top up the oil and i have never once noticed the level dropping. the bike does not smoke ever. I'd imagine sarahs is what would be defined as built properly.

If you hate getting smoked on the straights then buy another bike as tbh you will never win against even standard remotely modern 600's. However to put thinbgs in perspective the thunderbikes(the series the SV700's race in with bemsee) were out with the rookie 600's at pembury last weekend and although the SV700's were being smioked on the straights the lead SV finished in the top 4 in every race overall.
That are some nice figures, especially the 55 ft/lb (= about 74 Nm right?) torque. I’ve looked at some 700cc dynographs at the JHS website and especially the fact that you have more power and torque available from lower revs looks promising.

Point well made on the properly built. I assume proper use means making sure you give the engine a decent warm up before cracking the throttle? Personally I always try to make sure the oil temperature is at least 50 degrees Celsius before going above 6000 rpm. Both on the road or on the track. The oil temperature gauge I use is an excellent tool for that!

I know the SV isn’t a real match for 600’s or heavier bikes, I think I’ve written it down the wrong way. I’m just looking for a bit more power from the SV, because not getting passed by 4 cylinder bikes on fast parts of a track is an illusion. Even with a SV1000 it’s hard to compete. But I just like being in the underdog position on track days with most riders riding on 4-cyl 600’s, 750's or 1000’s. The SV just handles extremely well, in the corners I can catch up of stay close to guys with faster bikes. Especially the new part of Assen is an excellent example, the bigger bikes can't use their power.

But back to the technical part. Besides the 700cc kit and slipper clutch, did you also change the cams? Or does this “kill” the 700cc advantages by putting all the power back to the higher revs again?

the figures for my bike are from a Dynapro dyno which reads lower but more accuratly than a dynojet one does. Mine has gained over 12bhp in the midrange and over 10ft/lb of torque, it now also pulls harder up the top end.

There are lots of other bits which give an advantage. The cam swop actually doesnt work as well as people reckon..you need to look a little further than that. An identical motor we have built actually makes more with std cams, so they are now going into my bike until some other cams are made to spec.

Electronics also play a part..which we will be testing over the winter with more airbox mods. Running the lid off isnt the way to go we have found..so there is more to it.

PM on its way...need to ask you about Assen too as am planning to race my bike in the European Sound of Thunder there next year...
