Right, Baph you are just ****ing crazy. I'm not just saying that because I have a phobia of snakes too, but you should really take a lesson off that dead guy Steve Irwin - he teased poisonous animals and all and look where he ended up

Pulling dead skin off LIVE poisonous snakes is totaly insane.

ps. now you know why your mate asked you to do it

(assuming your being serious) never understood this, failure is just part of learning.

I don't have any real phobias myself, however:

My mum has a phobia of buttons (bless her) and Mrs Tricky has a phobia of snakes, she used to be really bad. i.e. couldn't even look at a picture of a snake or if one came on the telly she'd leave the room or change channel. She's better now, but we still had to take a wide path round the reptile house on our last trip to the zoo.

Needles for me

I think it is connected to when I cut my neck open when I was 10 and had to go to hospital. They gave me a couple of jabs, but I could still feel every stitch that they sowed me up with.

As a result, I also don't like dentists or hospitals . I have not been to a dentist in 20 years, and would now have to be gassed just to get me in the door. My wife has to take the kids to the dentist - if I go, I wait in the car.

Hospitals are not much better - even when I went to see my sister in law with her new baby I felt faint and then had to sit on the floor by a window . I also went to hospital about two months ago with my wife - the doctor merely mentioned blood tests (for my wife!) and I ended up layed out on the doctor's couch

Having said all that, I have suffered with back pain in the past and was seriously considering accupuncture which bizarrely does not worry me

It's something we do with our Royal Python all the time, and he enjoys the tickling feeling from it. But then, he get's a bath at least once a week too (yes, in the bath, in our bathroom).

If it wasn't me doing it, it would of been a vet to make sure the animal wasn't suffering, and I'm comfortable around it, so why not eh?

I've milked that very same snake before (which basically means getting the snake pretty angry, and then convincing it to attack a certain point, where the venom runs down some glass & is nicely collected - it's somewhat of an art form).

This all happened, because basically I wasn't giving my mates snake the respect it deserved. My fault entirely. I was holding it's head, just behind the jaws, just not tight enough. My mate was worried that he'd have to have the snake put down because of it (much like the same thing happens with dogs), but to my knowledge, there's no requirement for a venomous snake to be treated like that if it's kept in captivity, and why should it die for my stupidity?

The venom (it's a Mojave rattlesnake btw) is pretty potent, and I'm told that if you get a decent dosage, you'd better not have many things you need to do before you meet your maker. You've literally got about 30mins until you get there! Realistically, with the nip it gave me, and the effects it caused, I got about a half dose.

So yea, looking back, it was a bit mental, but I'd do it again in a heart beat (only hold on tighter next time).

Exactly.

Fair play, but do you have to mention it on your life insurance?

Taking my above posts into account, if anyone feels they want to have a crack at beating their fear of snakes, I'll more than happily introduce them to friendly snakes, ones that I KNOW won't send you to A&E

Seems a lot of folks are scared of them (as is my mum), but really, their ace animals!

EDIT: carlos, I don't have to mention it to mine, but then, I don't keep one. If I kept a venomous snake, maybe, but constrictors they don't care about (yes, I did ask them, better than invalidating the policy when they hear I've been hit by a bus!)
