Ahh ok thanks for the lesson I learnt something today

I always ride on low-beam but if it's advisable to ride high I'll start doing that, I find it a pain to keep dipping them everytime someone is on-coming though so I tend to have it low and switch up when I'm really struggling to see beyond the front tyre.

Hmmm.... Those DO look rather good on paper.

If you're on about the Philips Xtreme Power, I bought them a few months ago and they're bl--dy brilliant and they're road legal. Really recommend them. I put a review in the Hardware section here
Got mine for £30 for the two from a shop in Bristol (near the Galleries in Broadmead)

Seeing is the easy part, and I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the quality of the pointy's head lights. I've taken to wearing some high-vis stuff on my top half at night, because my main concern about riding at night is that a close-up bike can look like a distant car, so anything which might prevent some idiot making that mistake is vital to me.
I love night-riding now though, it's a blast.

Ok guys here`s 1 for the pot, yellow/green tinted glasses (i`ve only ever tried yellow). Got told many years ago by an old biker, well he was experienced back then but now he`d be old, that he swears by them. Anyway number of reasons for this
(his/my thoughts and opions so correct me if i`m wrong)

1. yellow and green light is absorbed easier by the eye than say bright white, hence albinos wearing yellow lens, night vison google images, green, doesn`t wreck nightvision also low visability to enemy.

2. yellow cuts out a lot of glare, lots of european cars have yellow head lights. The eye is atracted by 2 things, light and movement, oncoming cars have both, less glare easier to ignore/less dazzling.

3. even mirrored yellow lens (i.e sunglasses) make everything look brighter (minus glare, see above) so can still look cool at night while seeing everything a lot better.

Got pulled once and the very nice policeman( ) after pointing out the error of my ways took an interest in the afore mentioned mirrored sunglasses, after looking through them a couple of times said "i was going to tell you off for wearing these, why do you wear them?" see above "well i don`t see the benefit of them, they just make everything look brighter" HELLO!
Bugger me a couple of days later while watching some tv programme police thing about inner city trouble they show a couple of cops on push bikes at night wearing guess what? Gold stars all round, yellow tinted glasses. Wonder why that was?

Unfortunately broke my glasses a couple of months back and missing them like mad, still looking for another decent pair. So what do you guys reckon?

All sunglasses / night driving glasses and coloured bulbs work by filtering out light waves. Filtering out certain light waves will reduce the total amount of light reaching the eye, which is a bad thing IMO. White light, the brightest possible, will increase the amount of light entering the eye and make it easier to see.

If you find night driving a strain or suffer from glare, you may have a minor eye defect (such as eye strain from computer monitors!) which should be checked.

My two pennorth...
