SV speedos are extremely generous - anybody who believes their 70 horse, 360+ pound bike will do 140, (or anything like it), is wrong.

It's in the manufacturers interests to make them read the maximum +10% as that way our service intervals come up quicker so they can rake in more cash. I altered my gearing so it's about right now according to GPS

Erh hows that going to work when the speedo is driven by a sensor on the front wheel spindle ?

Or it is on the Curvey anyway, not sure about the pointy. From what I've read changing the profile of the front tyre can make a difference. But TBH at stupid speeds I'm not really watching the speedo I'm watching the road.

Well on my bikes, SV1000s, they are driven from a sensor on the front sprocket.

The clue was there if you read the whole thread :-

I saw an indicated 172 on the clock in France 2005. The GPS in my tank bag confirmed 165 and it was a real bugger to look at. This is on a fully faired thou with modded cylinder heads and a few other things showing 117 bhp @ rear wheel. I was probably also the one getting over 200 miles on a tank too due to my G/F going everywhere with me. Since done 240 on a tank then pushed it to the garage on the long walk of shame.
