I don't know what riding position you adopt but setting the bike up to suit yourself is a major factor. Re-aligning your control levers, adjusting the front suspension so you don't have so many shock bumps, raising or lowering your seat and the foot pegs, plus a double bubble screen for wind blast all come into the "comfort factor" for general riding. Racing posture is OK for a bit of scratching but bloody uncomfortable for any length of time. As a side note much as I would like to change for a new bike, my current one is so comfortable every time I have a test ride on something new I get put off by not performance but comfort as I prefer to tour as against scratching
Persevere as a few mm's here and there makes a terrific difference and trial and error adjustments pay off in the end
We have all been there but I'm an old git who likes comfort

one more point try and use your knees and lower back to take the weight off, my wrists have only ached in winter a little but, elbows bent - light on the wrists and grip with your kness, no more probs for me

If it's your first bike then gripping too tightly is more likely to be the main problem. The 650S has clip-ons so there can be wrist strain, but I remember pulling muscles in my hand on my first bike and that wasn't even remotely a race position, just too nervous!

The SV took me a bit of getting used to, but all the aforementioned tips will help, especially the gripping with knees one. I forget that all the time still, just because of laziness, it is easier not to do it if you are out of practice. It's much better for machine control though from what I understand, you aren't transferring unnecessary weight down through the bars which can limit the turning ability of the bike somewhat.

6'3 and the SV suits me fine, will just take a while to settle in to it.

Ride faster and let the wind take the weight.

I tend to sit right up against the tank and keep my back fairly straight. I have no problems with pains in the wrists on a 2001 model.
I also change position quite a lot so I am not in the same fixed pose for very long. Perhaps the best advice I have seen posted here is to ensure that the levers are correctly positioned, it makes a hell of a difference. Use the reach adjuster on the brake lever too.
