Does the current Congestion charge in London actually make any money? (for investing in public transport)

its awful! i don't understand how they get away with it again and again. The french are so good at standing up for what they believe in, i don't know why we can't. £1/litre for fuel + obscene road pricing charges is just ridiculous. How about removing 2million cars overnight....by getting rid of the untaxed, uninsured, unlicensed drivers driving unroadworthy cars?! i'd be happy to be pulled over a few times if they were checking licences.

But you can't have a consultants prepare a report on stopping unlicensed drivers & where's the provision for designing/ installing/ servicing an overbudget computer system for that....

No fun at all

It's our own fault - we're just too Lazy & indifferent. When the French protest they protest - most of us can't even be bothered to Vote. Signing an electronic petition is about it.

We can however have Pensioners ejected from their own party conference for heckling.

Democracy in action.

+1, but with clothes.

Just don't expect me to walk (or take public transport) to get to London for a protest march.

All it takes is for one person to step forward & plan it...

Ah, much better idea. More environmentally friendly than cars, uses less fuel too.

What are we going to protest about specifically? Or just a general "The government are pants" rant? Maybe we could throw pants at the houses of parliament, which wouldn't be an issue for you really Grinch in your b'day suit...

EDIT: Why do I get the feeling it's just going to be me, and a naked hairy bloke walking around London??

Well it should be cheaper for motorcyclists because they cause less congestion than cars and road tax duty and petrol duty should be scrapped. That would go some way to making things fairer but £1.34 a mile or 2p on cheap roads. (no doubt the sort of roads no ones knows about) (figures from bbc news) is frigtening! i live in Bristol city centre so god help me. They're bidding for a pilot scheme.

I live 90 miles from my parents and would use about 85 miles of the M5 to get there so we're looking at £100 or more. They're even talking about number plate recognition cameras to counter my plans on dismantling the tracking device that will be in future vehicles! It checks you are transmitting your location and if not a hefty fine. What a ****e country to live in.

p.s. took my motorcycle test yesterday, passed with 6 minors! woohoo! SV for me!
