Picked up the bike yesterday - silver faired K3 - first impressions:

1) With leathers on - how high are the pegs?!?! - Mind you it all comes together as you move off
2) Loads of engine braking - took me a while to adjust
3) How easily does the bike corner - I couldnt beleive it - it tips over so quickly

All in all - I LOVE IT!!!

Mind you, just one think I wouldnt mind your advice on:

I was having trouble changing gear on the way back - I've done a search on here, and I'll lube the gear selector rod and joints later to see if that helps.

When I was changing say, from 2nd to 3rd - with my foot under the lever, it felt like it was in 6th - i.e. no movement. However, if I tapped the top of the lever with the sole of my boot (i.e. to downshift but not that hard) then changed up, it was fine - it was pretty much the same for all the gears, and similar with downshifting...Is it just lubing required or adjustment do you think?

Ta muchly,

Billy.

With it being a new bike, are you sure that you are letting the selector rest in the correct position? What i am saying is, without you knowing, you may inadvertently be letting the selector rest on the top of your boot rather than in the central position. It's an easy mistake to make and one which I have done myself. Have you got new boots that are thicker from sole to toe than you realize? I have a feeling that this is your problem rather than something mechanical.

You could be right Sean - bear in mind that I have only been riding for a week, learning on CCM R30's - obviously totally different. In addition, I was learning in walking boots, and I wore my nice new Sidi'd yesterday for the first time - so I think you may be right.

I've sprayed all the parts thoroughly with WD40 this morning - will take her for a ride later and see how it goes - thanks for the tip though - I'll try to make a concious effort.

I suppose with the CCM's being a bit more upright, my leg and foot position is totally different on the SV - that could be a contributor too...

Had the cutting out issue on the way back a couple of times too - think the idle speed may be a little low, I'll let her get up to temp then adjust to 1300rpm or so...is that correct?

Just another question, (sorry to bother you all with daft questions, but I'm a total novice when it comes to bikes) - whats your favourite chain lube? If I use the bike every few days (dont commute as I work from home) how often should I lube?

Thanks again - don't know what I'd do without this forum!

Billy.

Ooooh...just thought of something else!

What is the best engine oil to use? - I have got a record of the manufacturers specs in the handbook, but I know from my cars that I'll vary the oil dependant on driving conditions & mileage.

The SV has 17k on the clock, 3 years old (K3)

Do you guys (and gals) lean towards any specific makes?

Ta again (and again!)

Billy.

Look at www.ridetriangles.co.uk for some useful info regarding chain lube and other bits and bobs can't help ya with the oil but do a search on here cuz I know it's been covered in the past.

Congrats on the pass and the sv.

Regards
