Kwak, is your front tyre worn to the edge too?
On my CBR (same tyre sizes I think) the rear will wear to the edge while leaving an unused strip of about 10mm on the front so there is more lean to be used. Probably got something to do with the way the tyre deforms. About the kneedown i'll say what I always say: hang off as far as you can. If it feels ridiculous it's probably about right. Oh, and the road probably isn't the place to learn to do this. Get yourself on a trackday! |

i saw a video of this bloke showing proper position and the lot. it helped alot. thes a video on youtube. its a mcn teacher showing this bloke how to do it. type in knee down n ull get it.
the way i got mine down was: slide a cheek of the seat. ull feel the seat inbetween ya crack. keep ya arms relaxed, if ya on a right hander, keep ya right arm bent and ur left arm restin on the tanks the best position. just let ya leg drop in with a lil bit of perswation. dnt force it dow. and try and hold youself with ur outside leg (the 1 that aint gonna be on the floor) just stay relaxed n ull b fine hope it helps. jay Last edited by jay boi; 11-06-07 at 08:10 PM. I was in a similar position when I started until I had some assistance from a few mates watching me.
I was getting the bike position and speed fine, but no knee down... It was due to the position of the knee itself. Make sure you stick it out, and then down - that's the important bit. Takes AGES to do it at first, but you almost feel like you're forcing your knee down into a foam mat from where you are positioned already. You'll get there! ![]() |

I've often wondered about this. Is it faster on typical British B-roads to
A: Ride flat out, full tilt, hanging off, knee down, but compromise the optimal line in order to avoid head in traffic/head in bush syndrome. or B: Ride the bike more upright, don't hang off, but take a smoother arc, using a bit more road, and making the corner less sharp. Probably the former, and depends on the particular corner I'm sure, but I reckon there's not much in it. In any case, kneedown is a roundabout only affair for me, not that I do it any more. |
