It's that day of the year where you all get to say, quite truthfully, that people from High Wycombe are nuts. Resurrected a few years ago the annual Beating of the Bounds goes around the ancient marker stones denoting ye olde parish boundaries. Pausing at each a small child is ceremonially lowered head first onto a box placed beside the stone (the stone itself would be a bit of a whack to the noggin). This young lad and his mum just happened to be passing when the Town Crier (Tricorn hat and white hosiery) was proclaiming the kick off and when I told them what was occuring they followed the procession around and joined in.
