Luckypants - How long were you there?

I went to India for a month, Agra, Jaipur and Delhi plus a few other places at the end of a years travelling many moons ago. I was skint and back packing, I bet I stayed in nastier places than you.
But yes still good memories, even after nearly being admitted to hospital for a really bad case of food poisoning.

Funny how time makes everything Rose Tinted. (Really wasn't much fun at the time I will never forget that evening!)

Had they invented hand gel back in the day?

We were very pernickty about hygiene and did not eat salad, have ice etc etc in case the local water was used. Hotels and some driver/guides provided bottled water. However, we did stay in some swanky places as we were on holiday, so balls to cost!

I've got a bit of a grumbly tumbly which is definitly not food poisoning, more likely caused by eating curry non-stop for two weeks and my insides were not prepared for it.

No, no hand gel.
And no nothing was swanky, maybe skanky.

It is an amazing place though. One morning looking out of the hotel (****hole) window in New Delhi to see two Elephants being ridden through the general chaos of cows, goats, people, scooters, rubble and other assorted ****e is one I will remember. The smell is another...

Glad you had a great holiday.

Glad you had a great holiday.

I used to have to go on business trips to some dodgy countries (commissioning production machinery) and got used to not having anything that was not cooked, no ice and only drinking carbonated water (the locals were not against finding empty bottles and filling them up from local tap and re-selling them, carbonated water was harder to fake).

One of the older engineers went to India a lot in the 60's and 70's and he always said his most lasting memory was that everywhere he went smelled like 5h!t and cows could easily cause traffic jams by lying down in the road or just wandering along slowly because people were not allowed to interfere with them - and all the taxis were Morris Oxfords with 'square wheels' (or maybe just the roads were bad.

Was watching the frogs in my pond this afternoon as they "wrestled" and "cuddled" (yes, a bit pervy I know) and something a bit smaller caught my eye. A newt! We've never had newts in the pond before. That should put a spanner in the works of the developer whose bought three houses at the bottom of my road and seems to think there are no animals of interest in the area. I can now add newts to the list of bats, foxes and badgers. Cool.

It's the Monkey's 21st birthday today. Although her uni lecturers are on strike she is self learning so has stayed down in Brighton for her birthday. Lady Poppy and I went out and toasted her special day and very nice it was too. Local bar, homemade burgers, two pints of local ale. Marvellous. So few places like that in Wycobe these days. Hope she had as good a time as we did
