This actually had me in fits of giggles, thank you.

I managed some more work on the bike again today and she is starting to look a motorcycle again and not just a jumble of frames, wheels and bits dropped in a pile (shut it non pointy fans, keep your comments to yourselves about how Pointies look!) and put together by a monkey.

I have got the fairing back on, the brake hoses are fitted, filled and have had a basic bleed. There is still some air in the system, but I got too cold and sore to finish. Thankfully Carol gave me a cup of hot chocolate and carried in the tool box for me, otherwise I would still be in the garage setting up camp under Sylvie's starter motor!

So my next set of jobs are to properly bleed the brakes, front and rear, refit the wires to power socket, sort out the speedo and reconnect the wires for the air box.

However, for the speedo I think that I have something very special in the works, but for now that is a top secret. So here she is almost done. Yes I know, another boring pointy photo, but she is my baby and I love her just like I would a child. She even has a soul as I discovered yesterday when I photographed her in the sun, it was the hazy glow around her like an aura. She is alive and she knows that I love her.



Those blue spot brakes look really nice and they have a bite to them too. Very firm and very nice.

More photos to follow because Wifey came out with her nice camera and took some photos that you can actually see things in.

The clearance between the brake lever and the screen is just under 1CM!



Nearly ready to ride, I did start her up just to check that I had all of the wiring in the right place, but because the air box is disconnected (I forgot this!) I got an FI warning flash up on the dash. Will I need to reset this once I have it all back together properly? If yes, how?



I told you it got Dark and yet I still carried on with a head torch!



It was a happy day indeed.

The first test ride of Sylvie after all of this work was something of a success. I had to use the Sat Nav as a speedo, but that will be addressed in the next couple of days. In the mean time, this is how much better she is than standard.



The steering is very light and very responsive, the brakes are as sharp as a sharks tooth and the forks float me over the bumps and potholes that are so common on the roads of Weston.

If I could find anything negative to say it would be this, if Suzuki were to build them like this to begin with, they would be an awesome bike from the start.

The rear shock and front fork feel very balanced on the bike and the brakes are really very nice, I swear that I can feel the pads biting into the disk. I have not yet ridden her at speed yet, the speed limit on the Toll Road is only 25MPH, but when testing stuff for the first time, I don't really fancy a blast down the motorway with out knowing that it all works.

So how pleased with myself am I? This pleased with myself!



Even Sylvie looks happy.



However, it was too cold for my aching bones to be out for more than half an hour and so it was back home for a hot chocolate and a sit down.

yey she lives. yes you are right that if Suzuki built the SV like yours from the factory it would be a superb bike.. yes Suzuki know this and that is why they dont as how else are they supposed to entice the upgrade path to a bigger faster bike that already has the good stuff..

There's a lot to be said for a bike set up to suit you, good suspension, brakes, tyres and ergonomics make a world of difference.
The knowledge gained from doing it yourself is priceless.
It looks good.

I'm wondering about the high bars/ low screen (when you get up to speed)
I'll continue to watch with interest.

Thank you everyone for the kind words of encouragement and before anyone else suggests it, no I am not fitting a turbo. People will start to think that this is a Streetfighter and not the comfortable touring bike that she now is. Just ask my Insurance Company!

In answer to your question, I have had the Renthal bar like this for a while now and have even undertaken a little touring that has included motorway work. There is just enough lift on the double bubble screen to provide a little protection from wind blast, even when sat bolt up right. However for high speed above the legal limit on the motorway (of course this would be on a track and never done on public highways because that would be irresponsible and wrong! ) I have to almost lay on the tank as if I had the clip on bars back. With the throttle pinned I have hit an indicated 127MPH using this method even with these bars. The bike does feel awful twitchy at that speed though.

One hand on the throttle, one hand on the forks, trying to disappear....
