Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
I can see the headlines now. Today marks the first execution at the Tower of London since the 1600's when an American tourist ruined the famous Big Ben clock at Westminster. Officials are calling it a blatant terrorist attack and claim beheading is the only punishment terrorists understand.

Having to take down David's bed. The sun's out and the warm dry days are soon to be a rarity...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Bibio, have you tried a Seiko kinetic. Every movement of your arm charges the battery so it shouldn't run out of charge, even on you. Lasts about 3 days when not worn but as soon as you wear it, it starts again. I've had mine about 11 years and only had to replace the battery once. I wear it every day.

Could also try a perpetual movement watch. No electronics, and its self winding through natural movement of the body.

Stop your jibber-jabber & cure those gripes!
From a paper dated 16 March 1762 ( slightly before my time: " Jackson's Tincture For rheumatism, gravel, stone, choleric or griping of the guts, or any such windy disorder. Likewise burns, scalds, bruises, strains old ulcers or swellings of any kind it cures to admiration. " Sounds like everyone should have this in their toolbox, together with a Fixerpeg.

Bill, Big Ben is simply a big bell housed in the Elizabeth tower of the houses of parliament. People tend to call the tower and or clock big Ben but the name was given to the great bell and misused. I doubt a bit of electrickory could stop a bell ringing if it is hit hard enough. So your head is safe for now. As for executions at the tower the last happened in 1941 by firing squad.

I am worse with mechanical watches than I am with battery powered ones. Self winding or not. Quote:
