Pannic over, it's sorted. The spring is out of shape so I'll find a new one but other than that it's fine. You can inspect it at the next meet and I'll get you a new one if you aren't happy with it.

Why did you use the extractor when an angle grinder is so much easier?

??? I didn't - I used an angle grinder. Although I think where I went wrong was using the rivet pin with the spring, rather than just using it on it's own. Or have I been doing it completely wrong??? seems to have done the job quite nicely in any case - I used the anvil on the open smaller end of the "C" and put the rivet pin down the barrel and then used the thread to tighten the rivit pin onto the open end of the chain link pin to splay out the rivet.

Sounds right to me. Jus't don't understand how the spring got lodged in. The spring is there just so the pin does not drop through the barrel. Sounds like as you said, the spring is not of good enough quality.

Either way, you got the job done and the tool is/will be fixed. So result.

Oh, and not to be out done by Nick and his bad luck, my next door neighbour drove into my ZZR yesterday and it went down. Apparently they are that heavy because they are armor plated, just a few cosmetic scratched, which is amazing as the thud woke me up from the other side of the house!

I am very thankful for my drive and the places I have available to store my motorcycles away nice and safe at night.

Phil, are you gonna venture into Soho on Friday?????? You could drag Nick along as he needs to get out on the bike if he finally fixes the thing.
