Often thought to make the traffic drive too fast if it's one way and they have no worry of anything coming towards them . Schools aren't keen on roads outside being one-way. Either no-through or two way with calming is usually preferred.

Schools rarely get a say on road layout near them. It's usually forced on them by the highways department of the council in consultation with local residents; schools are frequently cut out of that process.
Best bet is for the school to be nice to the local police officer / PCSO and to lobby the nearest councillor.

Wasn't intending to blame the school. The council is at fault here for not sorting it out. The local residents had to endure total gridlock at drop off and pick-up times.

One of the school's I'm a governor at has recently expanded. The highways work has been blocked for 2 years now by the local residents who keep objecting to the plans because they want 3m more yellow lining, in the meantime the road layout doesn't match the school and gridlock occurs twice a day.

The hold up isn't the school or the Council, it's the residents complaining about gridlock that are causing the solution to be delayed by years. It's hardly surprising the school in that case turned their back on the problem

Have you seen school finances recently? Most struggle to pay teachers!
This school has been given a bigger building, but no more money to heat or light it, let alone staff it!!!

Stuff like that is really pathetic. I'm rewiring a community centre just now and they haven't budgeted anything at all for decorations. The carpets and floor coverings are all ripped up, holes in walls, different coloured paint in rooms, it all just looks horrible and dated
