Re: 'Ere 'ere is the EAR Megathread
And the result of wanting to get fit and healthy
The plate and screws are there for ever now. And the little bit broken off at the bottom on the right will stay like that too. It was too small to screw back on so the consultant decided to reattach the tendons and leave the bone there. |

Re: 'Ere 'ere is the EAR Megathread
They didn't know what they were going to do until they got in there. He said they could have screwed it, wired it, or leave it, depending on how small it was and what future problems it may cause. They were happy that a bit of bone floating about in there wouldn't be an issue so I can live with that. And i now come with my own Haynes manual too! If I start to rattle I crack out the torque wrench

Ouch thats some screws in there Rich!! Will it eventually mend to the point where no metal work support is required?

Re: 'Ere 'ere is the EAR Megathread
The actual fracture should be solid by now as it's been four months since the surgery but the consultant wants to leave the metal work in place as it shouldn't cause any problems. If things change though he said I should go back to him to have them out. The screws can come lose over time and the plate can agrivate the tendons etc, especially in such a narrow area like the ankle. Apart from a very stiff ankle and weak calf everything feels ok at the moment. And I've got two good scars to show off.

Don't forget to carry a letter from your consultant & a copy of the x-ray when you go through airport security.
Yes, them blasted screws do come loose, as I can testify to that after having 2 plates removed. The doctor lost one of the screws when he was removing the plate. It did reappear

Re: 'Ere 'ere is the EAR Megathread
I have screws ,plates and rods inserted and they will give you gip in 30+years believe me. I have also had some removed and that hurt more than when they were put in.
On the brighter side we can always find you with a metal detector |
