Re: The All New Megathread
I hope you used a referral code for the Octopus switch Gary, otherwise you've missed out on £50 credit.

Re: The All New Megathread
Excellent. It's a very generous system they have, really I'm surprised its still going given they are one of the cheapest suppliers. I've benefitted massively from it, £50 for joining and several £50 for referring people over the past 3 years. I hope you get a working smart meter, that's when you can really get on the 'cheap' Octopus tariffs.

Re: The All New Megathread
I've resisted smart meters until now John, mostly because I didn't have a great deal of trust in many of the energy suppliers offering them. My thinking now though is that Octopus seem like a pretty open and ethical bunch, so I'll give it a go.

Re: The All New Megathread
What are your reasons for being suspicious of smart meters? Sending usage data every 30 minutes versus a man (or more likely you these days) reading the clock every 3 months seems really innocuous to me.

Re: The All New Megathread
No real issue with them. The original mk1 meters were pretty dire for reliability especially if you change supplier. I was waiting until it became more reliable.
Octopus email me once a month for a reading which is no bother. I also note the readings in a spreadsheet to keep track of usage. Sent from my moto g(50) using Tapatalk

Re: The All New Megathread
Well I would love to get mine working, so I can get an EV specific tariff that would give me cheaper charging overnight. I'd be able to charge the house battery too at low rate and run the house all day at the lower rate. I see smart meters as a gateway to cheaper electricity. Although Octopus is doing me well on their Tracker tariff right now - which they allow me on as I'm officially waiting for my smart meter to connect. I give them a weekly reading via the app. So far since start of July Tracker has averaged below 18p/kWh. Standing charges are a bit steep though.

Re: The All New Megathread
I was out on the bike to pick up some bits and bobs and spotted a Kawasaki Z1 being pushed up a hill. I stopped and helped the chap push until he got to the top. The rider was probably around my age (60's) and the Z1 isn't light. We chatted while he recovered his breath and he thought the issue was lack of fuel although he thought he had plenty still on the tank. There is a petrol station on the other side of the hill so he rolled down into the station while I watched. I told him I would check on him on my way back in case it wasn't fuel. He wasn't there so I assume he got off ok.
Apparently I was the only bike to stop and offer help. The Z1 was N (1975) registered and immaculate. Sent from my moto g(50) using Tapatalk
