Sitting down feeling comfortably knackered after a very enjoyable day being paid to play music with my fiddle playing friend at the Whitchurch winter festival and Christmas lights switch on. Got lots of people up and jigging about to our tunes, and the chap who owns the restaurant where we always go for lunch lopped a huge chunk off our bill again. There are some good folk about.

Having a little one in the hospital is an emotional rollercoaster ride but we are top today so enjoying the moment.

Lovely Thanksgiving for you Bill, I know how having a break from having to go into hospital is such a relief.

Indeed it was Bill. It's one of a number of events I play at during the year which have become hugely enjoyable markers of the year's progress.

Mine is a smile from yesterday. Father-in-law lives in a small village just north of Shrewsbury and they had a Christmas fayre in the morning. The village hall was packed out and we got some nice little stocking filler presents. But the real smile was in the afternoon we went down the copper mine with the local caving club. Stretching from one end of the village to the other it was a bit of a scramble in places, crawls in others, then we had to rope over a steep drop at one point too. Tiring but a great way to spend two hours. Pics were difficult as you needed flash (only illumination was helmet lamps) and the sandstone dust in the air makes them seem foggy, but we found some great rock features in a fairly still bit so our guide used my compact.
