pitting? looks like stone chips that are just starting to bubble under the paint where salt and water have go in to me. Fork lowers btw

That's alright. Thought you meant pitted stanchions. Mine are a bit scabby the lowers as their not painted.
Haynes didn't do me any wrong (working with a couple of orgers in a workshop also helped). Also download the manuals from here http://www.carlsalter.com/suzuki-service-manuals.asp Mine a 2000 Curvy which is currently going through its major items this winter
