Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
For the last 3 years I've had the flu jab to avoid getting really ill, i usually get knocked out for a week or more.
Rang the surgery to see if they're doing this years clinics. Receptionist goes to book me in, and asks me why i qualify, which I've not had to justify before as my GP has recommended it, and it been the case for the last 3 years. But now i don't qualify for the jab and must go private and pay for it. WTF, i don't go to the GP at all, and this jab prevents me having to go, so whats the sense in stopping the one thing that makes me ill and having to use the doctor?

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
It's the old problem of preventatives being impossible to judge in terms of effectiveness.
That and budgets being cut.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Yep the old budgets being cut. But then if i didn't have the jab, and got ill, how much would it cost for my treatment?
I haven't had a bad episode during the winter since having the jab.

Hence the impossible to judge bit. It's all what-ifs. You're probably right and it'll cost them more in the long run, but it's impossible to prove one way or another until it happens.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
I see where you're coming from. Its just frustrating, as my records would show that I always come down with some version of the flu and with an associated chest infection, hence the preventative jab every year for the last 3 years.
Guess I'll just have to get ill and book an appointment, which again won't be possible, as they're always full.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
I'm not defending the decision btw. Just trying to provide some insight as I perceive it. I think if you can immunise people then it's money well spent. The costs to business and society of illnesses are immeasurable - way more than just the £££s they think they're saving.

Just pay your £10 at the pharmacy and be done with it.
My gripe is the woman who keeps phoning me on my mobile phone to tell me that Virgin Media will give me some rewards all I've got to do is first off give her a whole bunch of personal information. She seems perplexed when I asked why she isn't calling me on my virgin phone. |
