Re: The All New Megathread
Morning orgers. Think I'm going to swap my car for a dinghy, it'd be more use just now.
Billy-no-mates here doesn't get invitations to works Christmas meals and booze ups. One of the benefits of having been self employed for the 25 years prior to retiring. Off to Oswestry today to work at the monthly Repair Cafe, always an enjoyable and satisfying few hours. |

Re: The All New Megathread
Morning all. Finally, a respite from the rain. Time to catch up with a few jobs outside.

Rain and wind. I've got a fence panel to reunite with its posts.

Re: The All New Megathread
It blew out during the last storm and that weakened it. I expected it to pop out again yesterday as it was only loosely nailed. I'd rather a panel pop out than break a post.

Re: The All New Megathread
You can't see the hills here, so it must be raining

Re: The All New Megathread
Reasonable day here but I was stuck indoors of course working... Did have to get the long ladder out yesterday once the rain stopped to check out the guttering in the corner where the extension roof joins the original as I have suspicious water spots on the study ceiling. Guttering was pretty clogged with moss but the leadwork was oddly raised leaving a gap, now tapped back down flush with the tiles. Believe it or not it may have been squirrels! The builders left a couple of small gaps where the blighters got in to the roof space a few years ago, which I had sealed up with expanding foam. The foam has teeth marks in it where they've obviously tried (and failed) to get back in and the lead had some scratch marks, so I do wonder if they tried prising it up!!

Re: The All New Megathread
The pest expert told me to use something metal related to block holes as rats and mice don't like chewing it. Probably true for squirrels too. I used tightly packed wire wool or mesh depending on the hole size.

Re: The All New Megathread
We had squirrels in our loft for a short while last year. I ordered a humane trap, got all 4 of them in two days (they can't resist nice fresh peanuts as bait, greed overcame suspicion very quickly), and relocated them to some woods about 5 miles away.
(Yes, I know they're an invasive species and shouldn't be released into the wild etc, but there are no red squirrels around here to be displaced, the greys already did that decades ago, and I didn't have an easy means of killing them) |

Re: The All New Megathread
Had an 80 mile ride today. Sunny but cold and the roads were incredibly wet in places (yet dry in others). What was disturbing was the amount of standing water in most fields.
They have lowered the speed limits on the road that goes past Willingham Woods (the main local bike haunt) to 50mph which is bad enough but now have added new speed cameras - which I think are average speed cameras. They look a bit like this... https://thelincolnite.co.uk/2018/05/...bberts-bridge/ ...only with a lot more "boxes" on the mast
