I have an Oxford TankBag, that's never let me down yet. yes, it's not waterproof, but I know this, and I don't use the waterproof cover either, I put stuff in plastic bags if I need it to stay dry.

I'm still going to be buying panniers from them at some point.

I just don't trust them with electronics is all.

I have an external 5.25" enclosure with the Oxford 911 chipset, but I'm not very pleased with it's burst rates It seems to be faster over USB 2.0 than Firewire...

I didn't trust the waterproof cover to stay on my tailpack, so I put a bungee round it... Oxford say they're tested to 70mph but no higher Still, it's good luggage. I've used others that have been less waterproof with their covers on than my tank and tailpacks are without! Never actually used the panniers, never needed to- that was money well spent.

I have one you could try, but it's knackered

How good are you with a soldering iron and/or tape?

My solution was a 1M mini-potentiometer from maplin, and some wire. Solder the negative to the middle pin on the pot, the positive to one of the outer pins. Connect positive to 12v source on the bike, negative from the pot to one grip's positive. That grips negative to the other grips positive, then that grips negative back to ground. Clear as mud? Works a treat!

Best way would be to remove hte control box entirely, and see if that helps- if it doesn't then no amount of monkeying about with switches, variable resistors etc will do the job.
