But our government (and others) have had that ability for many many years. In fact, the satellites that record images used in street mapping, have far better zoom and resolution capabilities than are used online.

I remember reading years ago that American "spy" satellites could happily read a newspaper that you were holding. Yet I was watching a TV programme the other day that said all modern US tanks don't have their guns rifled, so they hope they hit a target within 4 football fields of where they aim!!!

I'm more scared of American tanks than I am of satellite images!!

The challenger II tanks are having their barrels replaced with the Yanks un-rifled one too.

I haven't seen the sky all year, so I doubt the satellites have a thing on me. Living in Manchester and Wales has it's advantages i suppose (the sky is so grey today I could swear someones concreted over Wales)

Have you seen the latest GPS tracked projectiles? So long as you get the target co-ordinates right, it'll hit it's target. Tested by firing out of a US tank at 4x normal velocity (16,000 G's) 35degrees off target. The thing still hit with reported accuracy of 10cm!!

EDIT: I do have to wonder what happens to moving targets though...

Anyhow, grey? Concrete? Must of done the job properly then & only covered South Wales. North Wales is glorious sunshine, and I have an amazing view of Snowdon out of the office window.

Bah! It's been dreary here since time began. The Severn is just the rainwater running off from Monmouthshire

The new rounds are so expensive you've got to wonder who's financing them. Current CHARM rounds are pennies in comparision.

But they fire fin stabilised "darts" so they don't really need rifling.

p.s accurate as they are, that doesn't mean we arent at risk of "friendly fire" ... from iraq.

What annoys me is that its more important to catch speeders than it is to worry about the environmental issue of planes flying about just to catch a few of us going 80 in a 70 limit...

Put a drone up in the sky, granted it takes certain emissions to get it up there. Once there, assuming it uses thermo-dynamics to climb, it can glide for as long as it's batteries last (solar panels on the top?).

Don't see the environmental argument there myself.

The sadest part about all of this is that most people just don't care. If you're innocent you've nothing to fear, apparently. Or at least, by the time people do care, it'll be too late to do anything about it. Sigh, we're doomed.
