Big powerboats are very very cool. Living on the South Coast, I used to hear the big race boats testing up and down Southampton Water, and rush down to the beach to watch them when I was a nipper.

I was also lucky enough to meet Steve Curtis (world offshore powerboat champion many times over) - his company built the first Virgin Atlantic Challenger that he and Richard Branson raced across the Atlantic which I had a trip on in 1985 - 66 knots with a helicopter taking pictures overhead was something I will always remember.

In those days, most boats were running big V8 lumps, however these days the quickest boats are running v12 twin Lamborghini engines rates at around 900hp each with ram air induction - good for 160mph or so!!!

I'm quite glad nobody could see what was actually going on, since the probably cubic meter of space on the little well deck bit in front of the transom was full of water. I get the feeling it could have seemed unnerving.

Luckily whatever was fouling the motor fell off as soon as they raised out of the water and we were able to carry on without incident.

Do it do it do it!!! You know it makes sense!

And also, if any of you are coming to the GM then there is opportunity to go for a ride on the boat out from Oban (55 miles from campsite) on Friday afternoon/evening.

Folks, if you have not booked yet for 2012, spaces on Simon's boat trips to the TT are filling up. Book now if you want to avoid disappointment. http://www.fynepioneer.co.uk/TT/
