Not taking the ****, it's just the same idea as compressed air- they swell as you add the water. I'm not sure how the "getting the peas out" stage would go though, it's prety awkward getting stuff out of an SV tank. You need to be careful with air, make sure there's no petrol fumes!

... water expands when it's frozen, so why do peas expand when they're defrosting?

doh.. just seen it was because hot water was added!

But how about why most frozen peas sink when you add water, but when you boil them most are floaters??

flibble, presumably because they expand? And therefore displace more water per pea. I dunno Can't cook.

Fill it with water first, same idea as a hydrostatic test.

If you're using compressed air on a fuel tank, there are 2 dangers.
1) air and petrol fumes can go BANG
2) air in a tank has a lot of energy, so if the tank split then it could hurt, a lot.

So, you fill the tank with water before you seal it and admit the compressed air, the water displaces all the fumes out of the tank, and being incompressible if the tank was to split then it just spurts out instead of explosively releasing.

I have a novel idea. Why not put several cans of shaving foam in the freezer. After they have frozen cut the end of the can off and voila, frozen foam. Get this in the tank and seal it. As the foam melts it will expand and bingo! Im sure someone on here who is more scientifically minded than myself will come up with a million reasons why this is a bad idea but just adding my two pence worth!

Ooh, interesting.

How would one go about pressurising a fuel tank and I thought fuel tanks were double skinned so it would only push out large dents that had dented the inner skin??

Really really scientific reason: it wouldn't fit
