LoL is all ill say to that. My brothers Laptop broke within a day because of an update reboot loop. I had to boot XP from special CD, go in to clear out the issue. Cant say as that or anything that made the computer unusable has ever happened with XP. So from my exp Vista fails.

64 bit refers to the amount of memory a processor can address, 32 bit processors can address 2^32 bits = 4GB

As hardware advanced 4GB became the norm for higher end systems and a newer standard was required, hence 64 bit, which can address up to 2^64 bits, or just over 17,000,000,000GB - meaning we've got plenty of headroom for the foreseeable future
I thought it was the amount of bits that the CPU could push through in one clock. That means that it can do big calculations fast. So if your CPU is doing calulations over 4,294,967,295 in size then you will benefit in increased speeds.

A by product of this is that you can use more RAM. IMO though when using XP you wont benefit from anything over 3GB. I've never run out and I run some pretty heavy programs on occasions.

IMO Keep XP and get a Solid State Drive. They will cut all load times by a shed load. That will be my next upgrade! Granted 60GB of storage wont go far, but then thats what the mirrored 500gb HDD's are for, storage.

I'm running Windows 7 and have been for about a month,
It wouldn't go over my XP pro so I did a clean install.
my only grip so far is windows7 hates my printer....... gurr.

my system is an old 32bit with only 1 gig of ram, and windows7 is noticably faster at start up and running other programs FACT.

so I'm happy, I'll be very happy when I get the printer working.
that is all

Wow, one problem with Vista and it "fails" - great sample size... *clap*

By that logic as you've had one problem with your bike all Falcos must be **** then?

Richie. Could it be that your old XP install was full of rubbish? I did a clean XP install the other day and now my computer is way faster than it was.

Guess ill have to have a read at the reviews to see if there is finally a OS worth upgrading to.

I think it was last month's Computer Shopper that mentioned that Windows 7 has introduced a new approach to networks, and as a result isn't backward-compatible with previous Windows network variants.

This seems a bit odd to me, it would stop me upgrading my machine to 7 as it would mean I'd have to buy 4 copies of it for the laptops to continue working on my home network!

I must be lucky, I used XP for quite a while, bought a machine with Vista home premium on it and haven't had any noticeable bother with either machine at all - not that I'm complaining mind!

Just installed this on my Acer netbook and stuff seems to run quicker even on such a low powered machine.

Only problem is that after about an hour it loses connection to the internet and you need to repair the connection to get it back.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

You misunderstand or they're printing BS

It has something they call Homegroup, which is only compatible with other computers running 7, all the normal windows networking components are present and I'm currently sharing items to and from machines with XP and Vista with no hassles, didn't even need to set up the networking settings, all done automatically
