Silly question, but how much oil is in the bike?? its as if it is struggling when it gets hot!

I am now suspecting you have an ignition coil (or possibly spark plug) breaking down ... again, when it gets hot.

Also you might have a blocked fuel line ...

Could be many things ... so lets eliminate one by one

Nadine,

Just to get back to basics on this one, you mentioned at the very start of the thread that the bike would not start. Can you be a little more specific as to what exactly happened?

When you turned the key did you hear the usual whirring associated with the fuel pump kicking in for the first few seconds? Then after this, what happened when you flicked the starter button? Was the engine turning over but just not starting, or did it sound like it was struggling to spin the motor in the first place?

oops, sorry didnt realise it didnt have an elec pump. Jeez, even my 1986 FZR had a power on whirring noise . Lets re-phrase then...did it make the usual clicks, squeeks or any other usual noise you would expect when the key is turned

Hi Nadine,

Had almost identical problem on my curvy recently. Changed battery-no joy. Reg/rec-tested and good. Generator and starter solenoid ok. All electrical tests done at home showed components were within normal quoted values. Took generator and reg/rec to Electrex for testing and guess what? Both were faulty under load!!!! Changed both and now the bike is fine again......

Not saying this what's wrong with your bike but it never hurts to get more info', right?

Hope this helps

Rich

Hi there,

well, like mentioned previously, if the battery was charged over night, it started immediatly and without difficulties. But after a while, in case I stalled the bike pulling off at a traffic light (I then needed more throttle than expected, due to the misterious problem) I would only hear a "bzzzzzz" or a "ssssss" when ever I pressed the start button. Nothing more.

All the best,
Nadine

Hhmm.. sorry I had doubts
I'll get the test tomorrow morning, uni work load has kept me struggeling today... But (in know one by one, but I have to say it) speaking about spark plug - I have had the common problem of water at the front spark plug, so after posting on the forum I put this greace stuff around it - silicone or so - but it took me 3 attempts to actually manage to do so. Any good? (But that was in August, and the misterious problem did not appear until November)

Hopefully until tomorrow,
all the best,
Nadine

Hi there, thanx for your comment! I have no clue , but I'm quiet confident in Blue_SV650s, I'm sure he/she has read this part as well.

All the best,
Nadine

I'm just wondering if this isn't some bad connections somewhere.

Check as many connectors in the wiring as you can find, take them apart (usually you need to hold down a small plastic catch or similar and then pull apart), make sure they are clean (WD40 will usually do the trick) and refit them, making sure they are fully connected. Also do the same with all the fuses. I recall hearing reports of corroded fuses.

Hi guys,

here are the results of my little tour:

1. After running the bike in neutral for 5 min (lights on): Battery = 14.13 V

2. After 10 min with average speed 40mph (lights on, dual carriage way, heavy traffic): Battery = 12.23 V
Handling, noise, need of throttle normal.

3. After additional 10 min with average speed 15mph (lights on, in the neighbourhood): 12.09 V
Turned the lights off for a measurement: Battery = 12.47 V
Everything still normal.

4. After another 10 min with average speed 10 mph (lights on, in the neighbourhood): Battery = 12.01 V
I would say the handling changed after this so I got scared and came back. After having turning the bike off and back onsurprisingly worked perfectly.

Is this enough? I think if I would have done the speed of the first 10 minutes throughout, I would not have been able to turn her back on, and the handling would have felt strange, like 2 months ago.

I'm off to uni now, but back at 5pm for the next test

All the best,
Nadine
