So I should get a GSXR 1000 shock for around the 50 mark - then either replace the front end with a gsxr front end 100/200 or just a spring kit and oil upgrade for the current front end.

Think this may happen over the winter though as it seems to greatly improve the handling...
New (Hagon/Maxton) springs and oil will make a BIG difference to the front end and, as Badger says, Gixer front end is a whole new kettle of fish (with lots of threads on it already).

Gixer rear shock is good improvement over stock.

http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=153847

That thread has Springs and Rear Shock for a total of £100 , which is about the right price , if you are gonna talk GSXR front ends then do a search on the forum for that as there a loads of threads about them . Personally I have done the front Springs with 15wt oil and the GSXR rear and I ride the heck out of my bike without any worries whatsoever .... a GSXR front end is an uneccessary extravagance in my humble opinion and a whole heap more expensive .

Cool - thanks lads - will price up some of the spring kits mentioned above and a k5 gsxr 1000 shock for a winter upgrade

May use the other threads to look into the front end swap at a later stage with a separate thread

The real pain in the butt with it all is actually finding nice ones for sale in the first place , the rears are always around , the front stuff tends to appear when you have no money then vanish the moment you have the readies for it . I sat on the money for ages for a set of springs , had enough to buy new ones and was almost ordering some when somebody gave me the heads up on the forum over some used ones and from a rider of similar weight as well ..... result , they were fitted a week later and the transformation was immediate , so much so that I chased down a Thundercat and overtook him without breaking a sweat , whereas beforehand I would have been in the bend going "please don`t kill me , please don`t kill me"

Will the GSXR1000K4 fit an SVK8, bearing in mind there was a slight model change post 04? If not which rear shock would be best for a K8?
Cheers
Jim

Not sure if they're the same but I've got a K3 1000 Gixer shock on my SK8.

Do a search for shock table, you should get a list of shocks/sizes and spring rates.
