Its a european thing as they dont like (Or are not allowed?) to take their hand of the bars so they lift a leg instead......or something like that

I nod at scoots/cops/harley riders, in general, everyone.

Doesn't matter if I'm mid corner (and I have been known to do the double thumbs up mid corner, cranked over a fair amount) or on the motorway.

T'is only polite.

For those that don't nod at scooters etc, imagine for a second that you have a completely no fault accident, and you're given a curtosey bike. Just so happens to be a scooter. Would you like to be nodded at whilst your own bike is being repaired?

Wouldn't ride a scoot and if I did, the less people that saw me, and therefore nodded at me, the better!!

As a new rider I was actually quite shocked at how every rider seems to give the nod / head slant when they see me about! Never once thought that this was going on!

I try my best now to give them a polite nod / head slant when I see them now. Which is it? Nod or head slant?!?!?

Harley type guys never acknowledged me, and I saw a lot of them!

I do a kind of sideways nod thing to everyone except chavvy scoots. It's mostly BMW riders who never return it. Was well chuffed to get a nod back from a copper on the A27 last week

I nod so much, sometimes I think I should be called 'Noddylad'.

Anyway, I don't, EVER, nod at scooter riders for the simple reason that they are serving their apprenticeship (like I did) and when they are 'time served' they will progress to proper bikes (like I did) and then they can enjoy reciprocal nods, safe in the knowledge that they've earned the right (like I do).

That's what learning is all about, working up to your 1st proper nod....ahhhhhh.

So I generally nod to everything/everyone even if they don't nod back and yes, I do also rev the engine/wave at kids if they're looking at the bike, but draw the line at popping wheelies on demand, as seems to be the shout from most kids on corners in Liverpool!

i saw a guy on an sv (the only sv i saw in my 2 weeks in germany!) coast past me with BOTH hands off the bars. i waved a big phoebe-esque wave, and he waved back with both hands. made me laugh out loud as everyone else was so perplexed.

i never nod at scooters (because they are mainly ridden by chavs in mcr), and i have recently taken to not nodding at bmw riders, because they never nod back. Goldwings I have an issue with, too. but other than that i ride around doing an impression of churchill.
