this is really bizzare, looked again at the pic of the locking mechanism, and looked at mine, perhaps it was the angle of the pic at first, been out and looked at mine and there is no difference between the two
I though it looked like it was sitting too proud, but its not. I got a naff pic of mine to compare

i know. the direct on pic looks like there is warping of the bar(there might be a little) but its appearance is enhanced by the slightly wide angle lens on my camera phone.

the bit sticking up in the middle of the lock should sit flush with your seat plastic surround, it shouldn't be any higher, the angle of your pic makes it look like its sat proud of that, but on the other pic from the side it looks fine.....hmmm

its not really sat proud, but there is a hole in the seat and the cowl for it to sit into. ya know the little screws both under the main seat and at the meeting of the two side panels. the one joining the two at the lock is fine, but the one under the rider seat is broke. doesnt really drop the fairings down at all. dunno if thats useless info or not. what im thinking is maybe there should be spacers somewhere under the fairing screws on the subframe. like the two under the rider seat maybe. that would in theory lift the fairings up, instead of thinking about the lock situation. maybe someone could clarify this as ive no sv to compare to at this moment and as said before, cant really rule anything out with this bike(and its previous owner)

has anybody ever had all your rear plastics off to do some work? Maybe not put em back right ...I was actually sat thinking of this whilst some telesales rep was randomly chewing my ear off

ive had all my plastics off numerous times(could do it with my eyes closed at this stage) for this n' that like brake fluid, scottoiler, reg/rec issues, tail tidy etc. but ive always put everything back on exactly how i took it off. im thinking previous owner might have mislaid something, as a few small screws n' bits on the bike have been found to be non standard. that said, everything screws in where it should. this is what led me to think that maybe there should be spacers or washers under the two screws on the subframe either side of the battery.

I seriously couldn't tell you. Maybe YC would know, hes had mine in pieces enough and his and plenty of others. Its one thing I don't do on my own is pull the rear in pieces. Mind you I'd better take note when I have Daves subframe powdercoated as he has a tailtidy and the electrics are like spaghetti junction under the taillight.....note to self take pics and watch how its comes off!

Try smearing some talc or something on the posts of the seat and then fit it. You could then see if the posts of the seat were making contact with the sub frame. If they aren't then there is something wrong with the catch, if they are, then it may be the bodywork.....
