Got ages yet. His big brother'll have to snuff it without any heirs before he even gets a sniff. And it looks like his granny is going to live for ever anyway!

In this country, men, women and children have died under a hail of blows or cowered in fear while petrol is poured through their letter box and set alight - with cries of "paki" ringing in their ears. Quote:
It's a term of racial hatred pure and simple. Last edited by ak_uk; 11-01-09 at 11:26 PM. |

But like a lot of words today, all respect for meanings have gone flying out the window. Take the word gay for example. Once it meant happy, now its a term for homosexuality. And yet for some reason now people use it as a derogatory term to describe someone or something as being crap. Originally this was because homosexuals were looked down on and became a hatred term but people don't think twice about using it negatively in everyday language. Just the way people are and what the English language has become I'm afraid.

Yeah fair enough. I don't assume anything really but i doubt you are seeing this from their perspective.
My friend is 21 and his brother 32, with a wife and 2 children. They are old enough to know where the term has derived from and what it means. They use the word as much as their own name ![]() In my view i don't see any harm in taming once harmful words. My mate and his brother are better off for their light-hearted views towards racism ![]() |

He's spent too much time on his grandad's knees. What chance has the poor lad got?

This happened 3 years ago. I watched the video this morning on the news and didnt see anything wrong with it. Yes one can argue that the term is derogatory, but this largely depends on the context and manner in which it is used. It was only light-hearted banter. Im sure they all have nicknames for Harry aswell which refer to his ginger hair or royalty. Does he get offended? probably not. Being in the army must be so depressing - they need to cheer themselves up somehow. So many people are too uptight on ethnic minorities and are too worried about "what they might think". Im wholly against racism but for goodness sake I wish the media and government would stop kicking up such a fuss everytime an apparently racial incident occurs. They should focus on definitive cases and incidents (of racism), real problems and situations (of racism and whatever else might be happening i.e. the Gaza strip war) rather than wasting time on things like this. Especially when it happened 3 years ago. Maria |
